In 2022, Afro-Kiva emerged as a master's program project, and it has since evolved into a potential startup focused on revolutionizing the accommodation booking experience for Africans in Russia.
With a vision to provide seamless and hassle-free bookings, Afro-Kiva is currently in the MVP development stage and aims to launch soon. The platform aims to connect African guests with Russian property owners, fostering cultural exchange and eliminating the uncertainties of booking accommodations in a foreign country.
Afro-Kiva's goal is to create a vibrant community while scaling to serve all foreigners in Russia.
Afro-Kiva addresses the challenges Africans face in booking accommodations in Russia, providing a seamless and trustworthy platform for both guests and hosts.
It enhances the experience, fosters cultural exchange, and promotes a sense of community.
To gain a deeper understanding of the target audience's needs and preferences, user research was conducted as an essential part of the Afro-Kiva project.
Through user research, we aimed to gather insights directly from the African community in Russia and from the potential hosts, allowing us to identify pain points, understand existing solutions, and shape the platform to best meet their requirements.
The research process included mainly surveys and interviews. These provided valuable feedback and informed the design and development decisions for Afro-Kiva.
In the early stages of Afro-Kiva's development, we utilized User Story Mapping (USM) and Lean Canvas methodologies to guide our product development process. USM allowed us to understand the needs of Africans in Russia when booking accommodations, while Lean Canvas helped us define our business model.
It's important to note that as we progressed, many changes occurred, and our approach remains adaptable for future improvements.
